Listening Sessions for Beginning Farmers

Beginning farmers face many barriers when starting out and in the formative years. The Practical Farmers of Iowa are hoping to address these barriers by hosting listening sessions for those beginning farmers who have been around for at least four years.

Hannah Breckbill, founder of Humble Hands Harvest, is attending their listening session out in New Hampton tonight. She told us the main barrier she faced was access to land and the cost of land.

"We need to be thinking about how we're going to get more farmers onto the land doing good conservation and stewardship work," shared Breckbill. Part of what she hopes to communicate at the listening session tonight is for others to encourage beginning farmers and support them.

Listening sessions will take place throughout next week. If you are a beginning farmer and interested in these sessions, will be receiving more information on tomorrow's Big Show.
