Helping veterans get involved in agriculture

It’s a free lunch-and-learn on Monday, April 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the FFA Enrichment Center on the Ankeny campus of Des Moines Area Community College.  Put on by the Sustainable Iowa Land Trust, the goal is sharing helpful information and resources with current or former military personnel who may already be thinking about getting into agriculture for the next career chapter. And, we encourage folks who haven’t necessarily thought about an agriculture career to join us because we just might spark their imagination and help them go in a direction that they might not have thought about but would be very fulfilling.  In addition, there are a number of studies that show that working with the soil and growing things can have a very therapeutic benefit in helping those who suffer from PTSD. The lunch-and-learn is open to all active duty and former military personnel, not just those who are experiencing PTSD.  There are a limited number of seats available, if you are interested Sustainable Iowa Land Trust, 319-800-8108 or email us at info@silt.org.
