Iowa High School Student Diagnosed With Tuberculosis

Health officials in Franklin County, Iowa are trying to determine if an high school student who tested positive for tuberculosis exposed anyone else to the highly contagious illness.

On it's website, the Hampton-Dumont School District said it was notified of the diagnosis on Monday. The student is at home and is responding to treatment.

Tuberculosis is a very contagious disease that typically affects the lungs and can be fatal if untreated. The district says there is no required cleaning for TB. It is an air-borne disease, which means it's transmitted by talking, sneezing and coughing. To be infected you would need to be in direct contact with the student.

Franklin County Public Health is working with the Iowa Department of Public Health to set up a clinic for free testing.
