DART Offering Temporary Free Rides

DES MOINES, Iowa - Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) is offering temporary free bus rides.

The transit service announced Tuesday rides will be free until further notice.

Riders are asked to enter and exit through the back doors of buses. That instruction is describes as a measure to minimize potential COVID-19 exposure to bus drivers and customer service personnel.

DART says it's also maintaining normal service hours for the time being, but is monitoring its ridership and the changing public health situation It says it'll continue evaluating if changes to service are necessary.

Dart says its taking more steps to disinfect, sanitize and clean its vehicles and high touch surfaces to protect passenger and employee safety. It's encouraging social distancing by asking riders to keep six feet between them and other people on the bus, at bus stops or at the DART Central Station.
