JOHNSTON, Iowa - Those in Polk County saw some severe weather in the form of a radar-confirmed tornado on Memorial Day.

Just after 6:30pm on Monday evening the National Weather Service in Des Moines issued a tornado warning for a storm cell moving through Johnston.

Rotation appeared in radar scans in the area of Merle Hay Road and I-80/35. The weather service confirmed an EF-1 tornado struck the area, lasting about 1.6 miles at 50 yards wide for three minutes.
