Indianola Mayor Resigns Halfway into 2nd Term

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The city of Indianola has no mayor after the high-profile resignation of this week of Kelly Shaw.

Shaw was in the middle of his 2nd term in office, and has had a well-documented contentious relationship with the city council. He was elected to office in 2014, and reelected in 2018.

In his resignation letter, Shaw said the council had limited the function of his office, which he called a "gross injustice."

Indianola's Mayor Pro Tem will take over the mayor's responsibilities while the city works with its legal team to fill the position.

The Des Moines Register reports Shaw referred to members of the Indianola council as 'Dumbasses' in 2018.
