MARSHALL CO., Iowa -- Marshall County residents are safe after grass fires broke out in the county last night.

Marshall County Emergency Management posted images of the fires to Facebook.

Community members say there were three to five fires reported last night.

Some residents say they left home as a safety precaution.

Fires were reported near Marshalltown and Albion.

The National Weather Service had issued a red flag warning for extreme fire danger across many Iowa counties yesterday.

Emergency Management says as of this 4:30 this morning, the fires are under control.

"It can be as simple as a car backfire, a tractor get hot, you know whatever it might be," said Kim Elder, Marshall County Emergency Management.

She says several agencies are investigating what could have started the fires.
