Des Moines Area Schools Drop Mask Mandates

(Des Moines, IA) -- Some students in the Des Moines area are attending class without a face mask. Parents and kids in the Des Moines, Waukee, West Des Moines, Johnston, Ames and other school districts have reportedly been informed face masks are not mandatory for the rest of the school year. Governor Kim Reynolds signed a bill just after midnight Thursday banning schools and local governments from issuing mask mandates. The measure was added to HF 847 and was passed at the State Capitol just before midnight Wednesday. Districts have recommended kids not fully vaccinated for COVID-19 still wear masks.
