New Developments Coming to Downtown Des Moines

(Des Moines, Iowa) -- Plans for new developments in downtown Des Moines are underway.

Deputy City Manager Matt Anderson says the skywalk from the EMC Tower to the old Younkers Building will be demolished, and a city park will be built on Walnut Street. Anderson says the city has done well with large projects like the Pappajohn Sculpture Park, but is looking to improve on projects like smaller downtown area parks.

Plans to renovate the former DICO site south of downtown are also gaining momentum. Anderson says the current buildings on the site should be demolished by the end of the year, with construction of a new pro soccer stadium set to begin next year.

He says the renovated area will be multi-functional, with not only the stadium, but restaurants, offices, entertainment, festivals and more.
