(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- The Cedar Rapids downtown library is closed until further notice after a small fire today (Wednesday) in a light fixture above the Commons area. Crews put out the fire quickly but the fire activated the sprinkler system. The building was safely evacuated and there were no injuries. The library says the extent of damage is unknown, but books and other materials were not impacted by water.

The Downtown Library will remain closed at least through Thursday, July 28, and until any necessary cleanup is complete.

Hold times and due dates will be extended.

Patrons can access library resources at the Ladd Library (3750 Williams Blvd SW) or online at CRLibrary.org/library-at-home.
