Iowans Bracing For Moderate-To-Heavy Snowfall

(Davenport, IA) -- A large part of southern and east central Iowa, and northwest Illinois will be under a Winter Storm Warning tonight into tomorrow (Thursday). The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities says the following counties will be under a Winter Storm Warning from 12 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday:

Dubuque, Benton, Linn, Jones, Jackson, Iowa, Johnson, Cedar, Keokuk, Washington, Jo Daviess (IL), & Stephenson (IL)

Heavy snow of 4-to-7 inches of snow is possible in the warned area as well as north winds gusting up to 35 MPH. Forecasters say the wind will cause blowing and drifting in open, rural areas.

The coverage includes portions of northwest Illinois and east central, northeast, and southeast Iowa.

Forecasters say drivers can expect slick roads during the morning and/or evening commutes.

The NWS says there's still some uncertainty on where the location of the heavier band (s) of snow (5+ inches). Forecasters say there's a chance of a wintry mix south and southeast of the Quad Cities before changing to snow, which could lead to slick roads.
