(Des Moines, IA) -- President Trump's recently announced 25% tariff on most goods coming from Canada are shining a spotlight on how closely connected the country is with the state of Iowa.
Canada is Iowa's top trading partner responsible for 30% of the goods the state exports.
Iowa sent over $5.5-billion in goods to Canada in 2023, and imported $4.1-billion according to the Canadian consulate in Minneapolis.
Beverages, alcohol and tractors lead the list of Iowa exports to Canada, while animal and vegetable oils and fats, and aluminum top the list of imports.
Eighty-one Canadian-owned companies also employ almost 5,000 workers in Iowa.
