(Des Moines, IA) -- Iowa’s 2026 legislative session convenes today at the Statehouse.

Lawmakers say several major issues will dominate the session. Property tax relief is a top concern for many legislators.

Democrats say one of their priorities this year is making Iowa number one in education, while Republicans say they will focus on public safety.

Both parties agree that lowering the cost of living and making Iowa more affordable for families is a key priority this session.

Republicans are entering their 10th consecutive year in control of both the Iowa House and Senate.
