Ten Iowa Organizations Register Support for Felony Animal Cruelty Bill

(Iowa) -- A diverse group of Iowa organizations is formally supporting a bill in the state legislature that would make animal cruelty a felony.

Ten organizations have formally registered their support for Senate File 2099, a bill that would make intentional animal torture a class D felony. The groups supporting the bill include:

  • Sisters of St. Francis, Dubuque, Iowa
  • Iowa Police Chief Association
  • Iowa Fraternal Order of Police
  • Iowa State Sheriffs' & Deputies' Association
  • Animal Legal Defense Fund
  • Iowa Organization for Victim Assistance
  • Soaring Hearts
  • Iowa Veterinary Medical Association
  • Animal Rescue League Iowa, Inc.
  • Humane World for Animals

The bill has received bipartisan backing but is currently stalled in the legislature as the session enters its final scheduled days. This year's legislative session is scheduled to adjourn on April 21st.
