(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Some Cedar Rapids students will be attending different schools in just over a year.

The Cedar Rapids School District is approving a plan to close five schools and change school boundaries.

Cedar River Academy, Cleveland, Grant, Nixon, and Wright Elementary Schools will close.

Wilson will become an elementary.

Franklin, Roosevelt, and Viola Gibson will be converted to intermediate schools for fifth and sixth graders.

The District says it will save $5-million a year under the plan, helping to curb a multi-million dollar budget deficit due to declining enrollment and state aid they say fails to keep up with inflation.
