(Des Moines, IA) -- Des Moines residents have another chance to pick up free trees at a second event from the City of Des Moines' Tiny Trees program.
The City held an event last weekend to give away free trees to residents, and over 5,000 trees were given away at that event. The city has decided to give residents another chance to take home up to 5 free trees again this weekend. Dan Just with the City's Public Works Department says this event is a little different than last week:
"The Second Chance Giveaway does not guarantee that homeowners will receive the order that they put in. It's whatever we have remaining, so it's first come, first serve, and we're just trying to get trees in the ground."
The even is scheduled from 8am to noon at Historic City Hall, located at 400 Robert D. Ray Drive in Des Moines. The various tree species that will be given away at the event include:
- Kentucky Coffeetree
- Northern Pecan
- Sugar Maple
- Sycamore
- Redbud
- Wild Plum
- White Pine
The even is free, and no registration is required. Residents are allowed to take home up to 5 trees. More information is available on the City of Des Moines website.
