(Des Moines, IA) -- Another lawn watering ban may be possible this summer, as Central Iowa Water Works is asking residents to delay watering their lawns.

While no restrictions are currently in place, the utility says a lawn watering ban could be implemented due to high nitrate levels in the Des Moines and Raccoon rivers.

Residents are being encouraged to water only if their lawns truly need it, to water early in the morning, and to properly maintain irrigation systems.

Last summer, the region’s first-ever lawn watering ban remained in effect for nearly two months.
