(Johnson County, IA) -- The Johnson County Board of Supervisors is meeting this morning to discuss language for a referendum on a new sheriff's office and jail facility.

Johnson County Sheriff Brad Kunkel has been lobbying for a new jail citing structural and overcrowding issues at the existing facility.

A recent estimate put the cost of a new jail and administrative offices for the Sheriff's Department at around $100 million.

The Board of Supervisors hopes to have a referendum question on the November ballot.
