(Mason City, IA) -- A private detective investigating the disappearance of a TV news anchor in Mason City says he has a break in the cold case.
Investigator Steve Ridge says a suspect confessed to a romantic partner about what happened to Jodi Huisentruit.
"I cannot tell you the identity of the person or who they confessed to. I can tell you they were in a relationship only a matter of months after Jodi Huisentruit went missing," said Ridge.
Police believe Huisentruit was abducted in June of 1995 as she was on her way to work.
A man once considered a suspect in the case, John Vansice, denied any involvement and died in 2024.
Ridge, who has investigated her disappearance for seven years, says he's turned over details about the confession to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. The agency has not commented.
