Polk County Supervisor Matt McCoy has lost his bid for re-election.

Former State Representative John Forbes defeated McCoy in the Democratic primary for the District 1 seat on Tuesday night.

In the District 4 Democratic primary, Des Moines City Councilman Joe Gatto appears to have narrowly lost his bid for the Board of Supervisors to Heather Jones-Brown by less than 100 votes.

Iowa State Senator Izaah Knox won the Democratic primary for the District 5 board seat.

Republicans didn't field any primary candidates, but can fill ballot vacancies through party conventions before the Aug. 26 deadline.
