Johnston, Iowa man convicted of First Degree Murder

(DES MOINES, Iowa)  A Polk County Jury has found Abraham Roberts guilty of First Degree Murder, in the April 2017 shooting death of Agness Yarlee.  Roberts faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison.

(DES MOINES, Iowa)   Closing arguments began today (Tuesday)  in a Polk County murder trial.   Abraham Roberts is accused of shooting his girlfriend, Agness Yarlee to death last April in the Johnston apartment the two shared.

Our news partner, Channel 13 WHO-TV reports Roberts' attorneys say the shooting was a crime of passion.   Roberts testified he did not remember many of the events, including how he ended up trying to cross the U-S border with Canada.  

 Prosecutors say evidence shows Roberts knowingly shot Yarlee to death.
