Iowa could require students to pass a citizenship test - like the one I took ten years ago - in order to graduate high school.
Just like the actual test that people like me had to take to become citizens, House Study Bill 573 would require students to score just 60% (it was 70% when I took it) to graduate high school.
This latest move comes as nationally people score very low numbers on these basic civics questions. For example, just 26% could name the three branches of Government.
So is this a good idea?
