Would you allow AI to take control of your car if it meant no traffic jams?

Traffic jams could be a thing of the past if we would only allow AI to take control of our vehicles!

Clearly there is an effort underway to get rid of so-called "phantom traffic jams". These are hold ups with no apparent cause.

The project is called the Congestion Impacts Reduction via CAV-in-the-Loo Lagrangian Energy Smoothing Consortium, which has an acronym! CIRCLES! The pilot is taking place near Nashville on I24 - a road I have driven many times!

It is designed to keep vehicles at the perfect speed to avoid anyone stopping and therefore causing a jam.

"Looking at how cars seem to be driving, how they speed up and slow down, that allowed AI to close the loop using reinforcement learning to say, ‘You know what, I’m just going to catch up to that car in two minutes. Why don’t I just slow down and catch up to him when he starts to speed up again?’ That kills the traffic wave," Vanderbilt computer scientist Jonathan Sprinkle said.

Which brings us to today's question. Would you allow AI to take control of your car if it meant no more traffic jams?
